Public Address (PA)/Paging System
Client:
The Executive Offices for Immigration Review (EOIR)
Falls Church, Virginia |
Task/Problem:
EOIR
contracted with GTI to install and maintain a new public address
(PA)/paging system in their four-building headquarters complex outside
of Washington, D.C., to allow instant PA communication with all
employees regarding routine and emergency situations. EOIR needed
stand-alone, direct-paging access and the ability to announce pages
from outside the complex—via a secured dial-in connection. This would
ensure operability of the PA system in the event of PBX access failure.
Task assignments included all planning, project management, equipment
acquisition, and installation services.

GTI Solution:
GTI
designed, engineered, and installed a multi-zone PA system that
utilized the existing 56-zone distributed-amplifier solution and built
upon that controller's expansion capabilities, allowing paging to a
single floor or group of floors and/or to the outlying buildings within
the complex. In order to provide coverage in all required areas, the
system consisted of 13 100-watt digital amplifiers, two 20-watt digital
amplifiers, 441 ceiling-mounted speakers, six wall-mounted speakers,
and one horn. In addition, GTI installed 14,000 feet of plenum-rated
18-gauge speaker wires in support of this configuration.

Results/Benefits:
GTI's
ability to integrate its solution with the existing paging controller
(installed the previous year) gave EOIR a significant cost-savings
benefit by not having to purchase an entirely new PA communications
system. Speaker installation was accomplished after hours and over
weekends, to minimize disruption of EOIR's day-to-day business
activities. All work was performed on schedule and was ready for
operation in full compliance with all contract requirements.
